St John Ambulance NT

St John Ambulance NT operates 5 fulltime Ambulance stations, 3 Community Emergency Response Teams, 2 Communications Centre’s, and a Head Office at Darwin.

Their operational workforce comprises approximately 130 professional paramedics, 30 volunteer Ambulance Officers and 20 Community First Responders, utilising a modern fleet of 30 front line ambulance vehicles.

All of the service’s professional members are trained in the management of asthma and carry oxygen and drugs to effectively treat cases that range from mild to life threatening. In addition to these skills, some ambulances are crewed by Intensive Care Ambulance (ICA) Paramedics who carry additional drugs for the treatment of life-threatening asthma and are trained in advanced airway management techniques.

In large areas of the Territory the paramedics work closely with the Royal Flying Doctor Service and Northern Territory Aero Medical Service to ensure access to patients in remote locations.
